For many years, we’ve known that our way of life in the industrialized world, namely the extraction and burning of fossil fuels, does not go without consequence. And yet, we are continuing to do it. We enable the resource extraction that threatens the health and way of life of those who live adjacent to it, and we change the climate and landscape of our entire world by burning fuel. As I truly know no other way of life than our current systems for food production, heat and electricity, and reliable transit, my work explores the tension that I feel about how we use fossil fuels and current industrial practices to power our lives. By bringing transparency to the typically unseen and unfelt connection between unsafe industrial practices and everyday life, I’m hoping to find a solution for ensuring a safe environment for all.
